tips about
the area

By car in Polignano…

If you've arrived by car, there are a few important things to keep in mind. The streets of Polignano a Mare are narrow, and the one-way system can be a bit confusing at first. Pleasedrive carefully, as pedestrians can cross the street or a car can appear at every corner, especially in the old town. If you want to park your car, there are a few seasonal rules to follow. Generally speaking, between April and October, parking in yellow areas is reserved for residents of the town. You should not park your rental car there. You can also use these parkingspaces outside of the season. White areas are open to visitors without restrictions all year round. In the streets around Via Roma, you'll find a few white-spaced parking spaces. You can also use one of the spaces at the bottom of the large parking lot. If everything is full, you can also park your car 5 minutes away around the MD supermarket. There's usually plenty of parking there.

Tip: park your car when the locals are working, between 8:00AM and 12:30PM & 3:00PM and 7:00PM This is when your chances of finding a parking space nearby are greatest.

Shopping in
Polignano a Mare and Monopoli

Please keep in mind during your shopping trip that many shops in Italy are closed at lunchtime. However, they stay open later in the evening. In Polignano, there are many garageshops between Via Roma and the main street, „via Pompeo Sarnelli“. Here you can find good fruit and vegetables for a reasonable price. Via Pompeo Sarnelli is home to manygrocery, cheese dairy and general stores. In the old town, you'll find the MD and Todis supermarkets, which have everything you need. If you drive along the motorway to MonopoliNord, you can reach various chains such as Eurospar and Familia via Viale Aldo Moro.

MD: Via Papa Giulio III, Via A. Calò, E

Todis: Via Arcidiacono Pellegrini, 38

Penny: V. Castellana, 26Eurospar:

Eurospar: Viale Aldo Moro, 70043 Monopoli

Local Bakery: Via Alcide De Gasperi, 16

But what you absolutely must try fresh is a burata, nodini, or stracciatella, straight from one of the small cheese dairies in Polignano. We recommend the following, for example: „Gioie di Latte“ at via Pompeo Sarnelli 213.

Thursday is
market day

Every Thursday is market day in Polignano a Mare between 8:00 a.m. and about 12:30 p.m. Here you can find a few treasures in a small market hall (via Maria Montessori) and along via Vito Cosimo Basile there are many traders selling their goods such as clothing, household goods and many other things.
